A generally accepted beneficial use of raw wellhead gas is combustion for power generation. In some cases, it can be burned in an engine or turbine to recover the energy as mechanical or electrical power. While this is a possibility, raw gas composition (or Methane Number) may not be suitable and is incredibly prone to variation across all parameters, including composition, LHV, pressure, flow, and temperature. Machinery such as that for power generation have limits gas quality and is intolerant to change, where variations in gas parameters lead to unstable combustion, derated engine performance, unplanned shutdowns, and costly equipment damage.
