Powering drilling rigs with field gas offers clear economic and logistical advantages, but untreated wellhead gas presents serious challenges. It is highly inconsistent, prone to fluctuations in composition, energy content (LHV), pressure, flow, and temperature, and often contains water vapor, heavy hydrocarbons, and other contaminants that lower methane number and compromise combustion quality.

These variations lead to unstable combustion, engine derates, shutdowns, and costly equipment damage. To maintain reliable, efficient performance and meet emissions standards, a clean and stable fuel gas supply is essential.
